The story of Healing Arts Apothecary begins nearly a century ago, in the 1930s, when Dr. Skinner, one of Battle Ground’s earliest physicians, established his medical practice in a modest building on Main Street. A pillar of the community, Dr. Skinner’s work laid the foundation for a space devoted to healing—long before the term “integrative medicine” entered common use. The spirit of care, service, and deep connection to the people of Battle Ground was planted then, and would continue to flourish for generations.
Decades later, in the late 1980s, that healing tradition was reborn when Dr. Jillian Stansbury, a naturopathic physician and clinical herbalist, began blending tinctures and crafting remedies in a small lab closet within her medical office. Her vision: to create a physician-led apothecary that honored the power of plant medicine and brought evidence-based herbal care to her patients and community.
By 1988, that vision became official with the founding of Healing Arts Apothecary as a trademarked business. What began as a quiet corner of a clinic soon grew into a vital resource for herbal medicine in Clark County.
In 2000, the apothecary found a new home—Dr. Stansbury converted a former single-car garage along Main Street into Natural Goods, Battle Ground’s first dedicated natural medicine retail shop. It was stocked with therapeutic-grade herbs, handcrafted tinctures, teas, and wellness essentials. The Reflector welcomed its arrival with a local feature, and the community embraced it quickly.
By 2002, the clinic and apothecary had matured and realigned their names to reflect their shared mission. The clinic became Battle Ground Healing Arts, and the apothecary took on its now-familiar name: Healing Arts Apothecary.
Over the following decades, Dr. Stansbury’s impact extended far beyond Battle Ground. She served as Chair of the Botanical Medicine Department at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, authored respected herbal textbooks, and lectured nationally—while continuing to serve her local community with integrity and clinical wisdom.
In January 2025, after 35 years of dedicated stewardship, Dr. Stansbury passed the apothecary into new hands—those of Dr. Nicole Lewis. A fellow naturopathic physician with a deep respect for the apothecary’s roots and a passion for modern integrative care, Dr. Lewis brings a fresh vision to the space. Under her leadership, Healing Arts Apothecary continues to evolve as a destination for custom botanical formulations, educational experiences, and a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that supports whole-person wellness.
Today, Healing Arts Apothecary honors nearly a century of healing on Main Street—from Dr. Skinner’s early care in the 1930s to the present-day blend of herbal tradition and naturopathic science. It remains a place where the community can find trusted products, meaningful guidance, and a deeper connection to their own healing journey.
